Ambiente - Restaurant

Riga is justly called the metropolis of European Art Nouveau style, because it can be seen in the art, architecture and even pleasures of the taste. The Convent Court in the heart of Riga Old Town hosts a restaurant "Ambiente" – the first and only restaurant in Latvia, where Art Nouveau style can be enjoyed not just in the interior design and ambience, but also in menu and the refined service.

Restaurant "Ambiente" surprises with its luxurious interior, which tells a story about Riga during the Art Nouveau era – the values and aspirations of upper class citizens and their attention towards each tiniest detail. Here anyone can enjoy the diversity of Latvian cuisine supplemented by the pretentious luxury and solidity characteristic to the Art Nouveau era as well as the perfect interplay between the food preparation and gourmet tastes. The upper class society of that time enjoyed simple and easily accessible food; however, the preparation and serving was distinctively different from the options available to common citizens and their tastes. A simple meal was made original and refined taste nuances were added to it, so that only a most refined gourmet could appreciate the difference.

Back then, the possibilities to discover new tastes and food additives were driven by the development of economic relations. Just like any other prosperous city, Riga liked to feast and products were brought in from all around the globe. Upper class society was eager to exploit the possibility of acquiring new spices and other food additives from foreign countries such as Germany and France. This allowed adding new and yet unfamiliar nuances to any food resulting in a completely fresh perspective on the food.

The restaurant "Ambiente" hosts five halls, where you can enjoy the Art Nouveau style, and each one of them has a unique name and distinctive interior design – Kitchen, Dining Room, Living Room, Study and Library.
